The Rubicon trail, a formidable challenge for any off road enthusiast
The Rubicon trail is not for the faint of
heart, or for anyone that is afraid of
doing any damage to their 4BYE.
But if you are planning on tackling this
mighty trail, you need only bring two
things, your 4BYE, and the courage to
tackle the treacherous 22 miles of the
Rubicon trail.
The Rubicon trail runs from Georgetown through the high sierras and into Lake Tahoe. It is a non-maintained road which is located in two different counties, El Dorado and Placer and runs at an elevation of 5400 to around 7000 feet.
There is a part of the Rubicon trail that is maintained from Georgetown to Wentworth Springs, but most people choose to start their trip from Loon lake that is at about the mid-point of the trail. This final 12 miles will take you through trees and granite that is common to this area.
Most people choose to run the trail from west to east where you have the choice of two trail heads. The main trailhead at wentwroth springs campground will allow you to navigate the entire 22 miles of the trail.
The more popular trailhead at loon lake intersects after about a mile with the trail coming from Wentworth springs and runs for 12 miles.
Regardless of which trail head you choose to start your trip from, You and Your friends will experience the trail run of a life time.
